Introduction to families
"Dear Family" message
Hello there! My name is Kate, and thank you for considering my profile. I am a kind and committed worker with two years au pair experience and a love for children. I am highly capable in meeting children’s needs for physical, emotional, and academic care, as well as maintaining an environment which is safe, clean and conducive to well-being. Through my communication skills, attention to detail and compassion, I can ensure that children are cared for in a way that aligns with your priorities and guarantees the very best for the ones you love. I look forward to meeting your family!
Why I would make the perfect au pair
I have a sincere love for forming caring, patient and warm relationships with those around me - especially children. I have excellent communication skills, am punctual and very reliable. I have two years of previous au pairing and childcare experience, including homeschooling and special needs care (age 6, 9, 12), as well as volunteering experience as a crèche leader (age 1-2) at my local church. I also have four years of medical school experience (Stellenbosch University) which included paediatric and emergency care training. I was a volunteer at the Somerset West Gabriella Centre for children and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. I obtained a Level 3 First Aid (2012) with years of volunteer experience, as well as paediatric first aid training (e.g. choking, CPR), special needs knowledge and general medical care skills. I helped at Somerset House Primary School as a reading and homework assistant, and have teaching and tutoring experience in primary and high school subjects including languages, mathematics, sciences and music. I am highly organised, detail-orientated and structured in my approach to tutoring, and encourage self-confidence, self-reliance and competence through a warm, gentle and positive learning environment. I enjoy teaching practical life skills, and maintain order and discipline according to parents' priorities. I am competent and experienced in the preparation and serving of meals, household cleaning and organisation, pet care, as well as the planning and coordination of activities. I am a very safe and careful driver with a dependable car, and always make sure to have phone data loaded so as to be reliably contactable.
Hobbies and other interests
I am a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and find immense joy in studying the Bible as well as broader theological concepts, attending church and fellowshipping. I have a deep affinity for plants (I surround myself with them in my space), and love to care for animals (I have a beloved bunny of my own). I enjoy time in nature, focusing on fitness and health, as well as diving into books and films. I also busy myself with creative outlets such as journalling, designing and photography.

Job description
I assisted the family in transportation of their grade 3 daughter from school to extra-curricular activities/home. I prepared meals and snacks for her and assisted with homework, extra-curricular activity practice (e.g. debating speeches, drama recitals, performances) and test preparation/projects/orals. We focused on English, Afrikaans, Reading and Mathematics. During homework breaks we busied ourselves with walks to the park, playing with pets, chatting and art projects.
