I have only tutored my own child, his friends and other children in the family to the extent of homework supervision and reinforcement of newly learned skills/ knowledge. While I am not confident in tutoring beyond grade 3 maths and reading, I would know how to collaborate with a tutor who does. Having said that, I am versatile and extremely passionate about tutoring grade 3 and below. I especially enjoy the designing of experiential learning activities that correlate to lessons learned in school.

Introduction to families
Dear Family, I can’t tell you how many times over the years, family, friends, colleagues and even strangers have told me to seek employment in the childcare and development industry.  People usually tell me to do so when they see me play with children; they say children’s faces brighten up in my presence and that my patience, engagement and genuine interest in their lives is noteworthy, if not inspiring. Having worked in the corporate sector (project management) for most of my professional experience, I never got to flex my creative streak and did not have the opportunity to explore my pedagogical talents. Now is the time. I recently ended an all-consuming full-time job to actively pursue a career more in the Vocation sector; with my focal point being children and their natural inclination towards arts, crafts, music, stories and play.     I would contribute to your family in ways that mirror what my own son, who is now 15, benefitted from throughout his early childhood. Now that he has outgrown the phase of hands-on play and arts & crafts, I am quite excited to bring my talents to another family.
As a single mother, I was lucky to be surrounded by a great support structure (I share a household with my parents). However, I was also extra-lucky to find childcare that went the extra mile. In that context, I experienced excellent childcare from the parent’s perspective, and I remember appreciating the approach of “it takes a village to raise a child“ on several levels. In today’s fast-paced world, it has become increasingly difficult for parents to strike a balance between professional commitments and providing personalised care and attention that children so desperately need to grow their confidence, resilience and positive outlook. I remember the relief knowing that my son was not just being looked after, but that he was being challenged, listened to, stimulated, invited to consider new activities, fine-Motor skills, and new ways of solving little problems (yes, I am a Pinterest-mom); the childcare I have on mind goes far beyond baby-sitting. Previous families that I have worked with can testify to my ability to establish trust and respect-based connection with children.  Au pair work, to me, entails a holistic and hands-on approach to childcare. Accompanying children, and sometimes guiding them, in their learning and growth, introducing them to exciting craft and engineering skills, arranging educational and recreational activities, coordinating schedules, baking, inventing, library-visiting, play-acting, story-telling and all kinds of lesson planning for homework/ academic growth all make up what I have in mind when I think „au pair. “
If I am not hanging out with my son, you will most likely find me working on some art instillation or other. My art projects range from miniature landscaping to painting, making jewellery, and working with wood and power tools (my father is a retired carpenter and framer, with a huge workshop).     Other than arts and crafts, I also enjoy being in the kitchen. I would like to think that I make amazing Pasta, and I can say with absolute conviction that my cupcakes could bring about World Peace!

Ms B' role in our household included: designing & implementing age-appropriate experiential learning activities, stimulating the toddlers with various arts/ crafts/ dance and drama activities, overseeing kids' snack & supper schedule, helping with transportation as needed, designing & implementing cooking and baking activities for the older children (always incorporating some Math principles in the process), supervising homework (specifically literacy acquisition through reading activities), occasional co-planning of events and playdates, overall household support (some cleaning, tidying, grocery-runs, folding laundry and managing schedules).

We were beyond heart-broken when we had to part ways with Ms B as the Covid-pandemic began and our living circumstances changed. For the four years (2016-2020) that Ms B assisted us with childcare I will always remain extremely grateful- she was absolutely exceptional. What I appreciated most? Here's a partial list, but feel free to contact me if you would like me to expand because I could literally sing praises for an hour: - Ms B is innovative, ambitious and self-motivated. After some initial training, I never had to explain or request anything. She always used her alert common sense to deduce how to be most helpful. - She is a very creative person with a genuine love for the visual and plastic arts. I never met another au pair or babysitter that shows up with an entire suitcase-toolkit for arts & crafts activities. Ms B sometimes looked like a Nanny McPhee figure, showing up like a Pinterest-superhero with so many different ideas for what to build with the kids. I particularly appreciated her sensibility for recycled materials. Through the arts&crafts projects, our kids did not only learn to come up with creative solutions and ideas, but they also learned that pretty much anything can be repurposed and recycled. - Ms B has an eerie ability to spend several hours with moody or sleepy toddlers and yet maintain a consistent, patient, loving and generous response. Children immediately trust her because of this consistency. - I loved how Ms B communicated with the younger kids, employing all kinds of voice and role-play tricks to sustain their learning and language acquisition. - I never once had reason to doubt Ms B's commitment to our family. She is an honest and hard-working person who is utterly passionate about children and early childhood education; however, life threw a curve-ball and did not (yet) permit for a career in the field. When Ms B worked for us, her role at our house was technically a second job. She always amazed me with the integrity and energy that she brought, always making it feel like we were her priority. When I would ask her "aren't you tired? " she would look surprised and say something to the effect of "no, this job doesn't tire me, it restores me"... - I can only say that Ms B was THE solution for our household's challenge of balancing work and life. Feel free to contact me if you seek more detail.
